Inspiration Behind Hafsa's Tables
Inspiration behind Hafsa’s Tables
One day, my cousin contacted me and said we should have a competition between our two blogs (Check out https://saadazfarwritings.blogspot.com/). It was just a concept, there wasn’t any deadline, and I wasn’t really invested. Until I got inspired and published Hafsa’s Tables.
(Tired writer) Okay, yes, I just wrote 9 pages in like, 3 days. Do I owe you an explanation?
Honestly, I need some serious motivation to get my fingers on the keyboard and start brainstorming. I started by searching up cool town names.
Yeah, I’m not awesome enough to come up with ‘South Hallow’ by myself.
It wasn’t hard creating the narrative of a Muslim woman trying to fit in, especially with kids, because I have a soft spot for kids. And I’m crushed when they don’t love me back, Muslim or not. I’ve always wanted to explain Islam to younger nonMuslims, but I was never in a position to do that until I absolutely gained their trust. As you can see, Hafsa accomplished just that.
Now, this is my real inspiration. The amazing Muslim woman who made the parable of glasses and tables is none other than … Sister Yasmin Mogahed! (Applause)
In her book Reclaim your Heart (which I have an actual copy of), she says “If things didn’t work out the way I wanted or imagined they should, I was devastated… Like a glass vase that you place on the edge of a table, once broken, the pieces never quite fit again. However the problem wasn’t with the vase, or even that the vases kept breaking. The problem was that I kept putting them on the edge of tables.”
Beautiful. Her books are real inspiring pieces, with cool cover art and an understanding author who’s worked through pain and shares her advice with us.
Yep, this is also a mini book review, but she deserves more. I'll post a full review whenever I want to, but it's on my agenda.
No, she’s not sponsoring this and I’m not advertising, but you should go learn more about the smart inspiring people in your world. You never know, they might inspire you to write a story while you’re on holiday!
Speaking of Hafsa’s Tables, there’s a lot of unanswered questions! What is her mysterious past? What will Elizabeth Grace and her parents do next to make Hafsa suffer? How is she getting money to buy groceries?
Find out in the next story, coming to you whenever I’m inspired!
Yay, I’m done.
Share, follow, and comment. Or if you don’t it doesn’t really matter. Yeah, I’m tired. Assalamu alaikum readers and May peace be on you!
And Inner Ninja’s taking a break, but y’all can say salam to her in the comments.
